Modified ecstasy 'attacks cancer'

Scientists believe a modified version of the drug ecstasy could help fight some blood cancers, including leukaemia.

Researchers at the University of Birmingham tweaked the chemical structure of the drug to make it more effective, but say any treatment is at least a decade away.

Professor John Gordon from the university's School of Immunity and Infection is the lead of author of the study and told Radio 5 live Breakfast more about his findings. Click here for BBC Article.

13-Year-Old Makes Solar Power Breakthrough by Harnessing the Fibonacci Sequence

While most 13-year-olds spend their free time playing video games or cruising Facebook, one 7th grader was trekking through the woods uncovering a mystery of science. After studying how trees branch in a very specific way, Aidan Dwyer created a solar cell tree that produces 20-50% more power than a uniform array of photovoltaic panels. His impressive results show that using a specific formula for distributing solar cells can drastically improve energy generation. The study earned Aidan a provisional U.S patent - it's a rare find in the field of technology and a fantastic example of how biomimicry can drastically improve design

PirateBay doing well..

Swedish file sharing site the PirateBay strikes back at Hollywood and at those who want to censor our internet by saying they can encrypt the whole internet going in and out of any computer. This makes any control from the authorities impossible. So long live the PirateBay and may Artists like me use it to distribute their music, it´s way better than putting it on MySpace and generating ad money for Rupert who is way richer and owns most of the media anyway...

The PirateBay even gave a diploma to the King of Sweden recently
The Diploma is a congratulatory diploma about our joint efforts in making Sweden famous globally when it comes to technology and culture.

The diploma is mostly in Swedish so here's the translation for the ones who do not speak swedish:

"To the King of Sweden Carl XVI Gustaf,
We hearby give you this diploma as a sign of our appreciation.

We have in a great cooperation made remarkable progress in the fight for positioning Sweden as a prosperous nation regarding technology and culture.

In these progressive days we've spread more files than ever. We've made history.
We now have the honour to report that The Pirate Bay now archives 200 000, by the citizens donated, documents of culture and we're tracking more then 500 000 cultural treasures globally.

This is a new world record."

We hope the King will appreciate our efforts and we have asked for an audience with the King or preferably the princess Madeleine.
here is the Princess!

Swedish gov't to vote on allowing downloads, e-mail, phone monitoring

Sweden is about to vote on a bill that will allow local authorities to monitor all types of wired traffic, including e-mails, fax messages and telephone calls.

This week, the Swedish Parliamentary Committee on Defense approved the bill, which was published last year. The Committee also said more safeguards are needed, including additional details on when the data can be used, how it should be destroyed and who can access it.

On June 17 the bill will be debated and finally voted on in the Swedish Parliament.

Its detractors see the vote in the Parliament as a watershed moment.

"We are about to give up an important right, not to be monitored by the state unless there are suspicions of serious crimes," said Maria Rankka, head of Swedish think thank Timbro.

One problem is that the lawmakers assume people in charge always have good intentions, and history has shown that is simply not the case, according to Rankka.

If parliament approves the bill, the law goes into effect on Jan. 1, 2009. The Defense Radio Establishment will get access to the data from Oct. 1, according to the Parliamentary Committee on Defense.

Why WiFi isn't so Fly..

You think you have the latest gadjets and gizmos in your hands as you're holding a mobile phone equipped with bluetooth and WiFi. Well, I've just realised we have just been conned for years by these companies offering us technology bit by bit (sic).
Nikola Tesla, alongside AC electricity and the lightbulb and pretty much everything else that makes our world "modern", invented back in the 1930s, a way to transfer electricity wirelessly (forget those ugly cables) and also to send sound and pictures wirelessly from one place to another on this planet.
So why the hell do we only get access to this technology now, over 70 years later?
This, just like the engines that don't run on petrol (by explosion) but with water (by implosion) is just the best way the industrials that had access to this technology found to exploit us (the dumb people) and make us pay over the odds for something that should be free.
Nikola Tesla, this great mind, wanted us to work with nature and not against it but sadly his great inventions ended up in the hands of people that were not so happy with giving free electricity to the whole planet (as was already possible in 1930!).
Same for the mobile telecommunications, this "revolution" could have happened 70 years ago but some people decided to wait until they could monitor the whole planet before giving you (the dumb people) access to any of this magic.
Watch this movie and you will understand more: Secret of Nikola Tesla

Use Scroogle to search the web!!!!!

There are two reasons why an ad-free scraper of Google's main search results is important. One reason is personal, and the other is political.

On a personal level, your support for Scroogle says that search engines should not be tracking you and retaining this information indefinitely. Not only does Google scrape much of the web, but they keep records of who searches for what. If information about your searching is accessible by cookie ID or by your IP address, it is subject to subpoena. This is a violation of your privacy. Someday Google's data retention practices will be regulated, because Google is too arrogant to do the right thing voluntarily. In the meantime, you should not be leaving your fingerprints in Google's databases.

There are other proxies that can protect your privacy on the web. Almost all are general-purpose proxies that cloak all of your web activity behind an IP address that is not easily traced to your service provider. One is Anonymizer.com. A possible problem with this one is that the founder, Lance Cottrell, has connections with the FBI and the Voice of America. It also costs money for a reasonable level of service. Another is Tor, which is much more secure. But it is also slow, because Tor is a complicated system that needs networks of volunteers to run server software. Juvenile surfers from video pirates to rogue Wikipedia editors tend to clog free services such as Tor, which slows them down even more.

Since Scroogle does just one thing, it is fairly fast and simple. But because it does only one thing, it is vulnerable to action by Google. They could block our IP address, which would require that we relay requests to other servers that are more difficult for them to locate. They could also centralize their system more in order to better detect and throttle any outside address that does too many searches per minute. Finally, they could make minor changes in their output format on a regular basis, which would break our scraper and require frequent reprogramming. Any of the above might quickly get too complex and expensive for us, and that would be the end of Scroogle.

One action that Google is less likely to take is to serve Scroogle with a cease and desist letter. This introduces the second reason why Scroogle deserves support. As a nonprofit with a history of activism on privacy issues, it would be difficult for Google to sue us on the grounds that their search results and rankings are copyrighted. The main reason for this is that we are noncommercial. None of our sites has ever carried ads, we have zero employees, and our gross annual income is about $10,000. Our lack of commercial intent strengthens our claim that we have the right to scrape Google. It's obvious that we are doing it in the public interest.

Being Robin Hood..

Do you recall a certain Robin Hood, who generously shared his loot thieved from the influent landowners. Well, in our new cyberworld, we can become that sort of hero very cheaply, telco's being the landowners. The whole issue is opening your personal wireless network.
There is a huge amount of anti-sharing propaganda going out everyday on all information and internet channels. Today I came accross such a movie on a so called "science channel" (http://www.discovery.com/radio/xml/sciencevideo.xml, the presenter was showing how easy it is to snoop on someone's computer. The reality behind these scaremongering films is that: If everyone of us opens their personal network, we would collectively be able to bypass mobile phone operators and telcos by having our own networks, this would mean a huge loss of profits for the small pack of these greedy hyenas of the business world and totally FREE mobile calls and internet for all the people who could afford a recent phone. So bring back the Robin Hood in you n open your network, solidarity can change the world.
As for victims of hacking, well, you're a grown up, you know if they really wanted your holiday pictures they would break the encryption easily..

Music and the Nazi party

In fact, A=440 has never been the international standard pitch, and the first international conference to impose A=440, which failed, was organized by Nazi Propaganda Minister Joseph Goebbels in 1939. Throughout the seventeeth, eighteenth, and nineteenth centuries, and in fact into the 1940s, all standard U.S. and European text books on physics, sound, and music took as a given the ``physical pitch'' or ``scientific pitch'' of C=256, including Helmholtz's own texts themselves. Figures 13 and 14 show pages from two standard modern American textbooks, a 1931 standard phonetics text, and the official 1944 physics manual of the U.S. War Department, which begin with the standard definition of musical pitch as C=256.[1]

Regarding composers, all ``early music'' scholars agree that Mozart tuned at precisely at C=256, as his A was in the range of A=427-430. Christopher Hogwood, Roger Norrington, and dozens of other directors of orginal-instrument orchestras' established the practice during the 1980's of recording all Mozart works at precisely A=430, as well as most of Beethoven's symphonies and piano concertos. Hogwood, Norrington, and others have stated in dozens of interviews and record jackets, the pragmatic reason: German instruments of the period 1780-1827, and even replicas of those instruments, can only be tuned at A=430.

The demand by Czar Alexander, at the 1815 Congress of Vienna, for a ``brighter'' sound, began the demand for a higher pitch from all the crowned heads of Europe. While Cclassical musicians resisted, the Romantic school, led by Friedrich Liszt and his son-in law Richard Wagner, championed the higher pitch during the 1830's and 1840's. Wagner even had the bassoon and many other instruments redesigned so as to be able to play only at A=440 and above. By 1850, chaos reigned, with major European theatres at pitches varying from A=420 to A=460, and even higher at Venice.

In the late 1850's, the French government, under the influence of a committee of composers led by bel canto proponent Giacomo Rossini, called for the first standardization of the pitch in modern times. France consequently passed a law in 1859 establishing A at 435, the lowest of the ranges of pitches (from A=434 to A=456) then in common use in France, and the highest possible pitch at which the soprano register shifts may be maintained close to their disposition at C=256. It was this French A to which Verdi later referred, in objecting to higher tunings then prevalent in Italy, under which circumstance ``we call A in Rome, what is B-flat in Paris.''

Following Verdi's 1884 efforts to insitutitionalize A=432 in Italy, a British-dominated conference in Vienna in 1885 ruled that no such pitch could be standardized. The French, the New York Metropolitan Opera, and many theatres in Europe and the U.S., continued to maintain their A at 432-435, until World War II.

The first effort to institutionalize A=440 in fact was a conference organized by Joseph Goebbels in 1939, who had standardized A=440 as the official German pitch. Professor Robert Dussaut of the National Conservatory of Paris told the French press that: ``By September 1938, the Accoustic Committee of Radio Berlin requested the British Standard Association to organize a congress in London to adopt internationally the German Radio tuning of 440 periods. This congress did in fact occur in London, a very short time before the war, in May-June 1939. No French composer was invited. The decision to raise the pitch was thus taken without consulting French musicians, and against their will.'' The Anglo-Nazi agreement, given the outbreak of war, did not last, so that still A=440 did not stick as a standard pitch.

A second congress in London of the International Standardizing Organization met in October 1953, to again attempt to impose A=440 internationally. This conference passed such a resolution; again no Continental musicians who opposed the rise in pitch were invited, and the resolution was widely ignored. Professor Dussaut of the Paris Conservatory wrote that British instrument makers catering to the U.S. jazz trade, which played at A=440 and above, had demanded the higher pitch, ``and it is shocking to me that our orchestra members and singers should thus be dependent upon jazz players.'' A referendum by Professor Dussaut of 23,000 French musicians voted overwhelmingly for A=432.

As recently as 1971, the European Community passed a recommendation calling for the still non-existent international pitch standard. The action was reported in ``The Pitch Game,'' Time magazine, Aug. 9, 1971. The article states that A=440, ``this supposedly international standard, is widely ignored.'' Lower tuning is common, including in Moscow, Time reported, ``where orchestras revel in a plushy, warm tone achieved by a larynx-relaxing A=435 cycles,'' and at a performance in London ``a few years ago,'' British church organs were still tuned a half-tone lower, about A=425, than the visiting Vienna Philharmonic, at A=450.

HOW LONG IS THE COAST OF BRITAIN?

HOW LONG IS THE COAST OF BRITAIN?

A long, long time ago, fractal god Benoit Mandelbrot posed a simple question: How long is the coastline of Britain? His mathematical colleagues were miffed, to say the least, at such an annoying waste of their time on such insignifigant problems. They told him to look it up.

Of course, Madelbrot had a reason for his peculiar question. Quite an interesting reason. Look up the coastline of Britain yourself, in some encyclopedia. Whatever figure you get, it is wrong. Quite simply, the coastline of Briutain is infinite.

You protest that this is impossible. Well, consider this. Consider looking at Britain on a very large-scale map. Draw the simplest two-dimensional shape possible, a triangle, which circumscribes Britain as closely as possible. The perimeter of this shape approximates the perimeter of Britain.

However, this area is of course highly inaccurate. Increasing the amount of vertices of the shape going around the coastline, and the area will become closer. The more vertices there are, the closer the circumscribing line will be able to conform to the dips and the protrusions of Britain's rugged coast.

There is one problem, however. Each time the number of vertices increases, the perimeter increases. It must increase, because of the triangle inequality. Moreover, the number of vertices never reaches a maximum. There is no point at which one can say that a shape defines the coastline of Britain. After all, exactly circumscribing the coast of Britain would entail encircling every rock, every tide pool, every pebble which happens to lie on the edge of Britain.

Thus, the coastline of Britain is infinite.

Uh?

About an Appletree

Extract from The Apple Tree
The Apple tree has close links with the shaman, the wisewoman and the magician. It is used when undergoing magical transformation or otherworld journeys. Celtic/Arthurian myth names one of these otherworlds as Avalon, the Apple Vale, the mythical paradise where hills were clothed with trees bearing flowers and fruit together. The word "Avalon" is derived from the old Iris "Avaloch" meaning "a place of apples". The old Irish name for the Isles of Arran in the Scottish Firth of Clyde was "Eamain Abhlach (Evain Avaloch) which means Holy Hill of the Apple Trees. Eventually, avaloch became the more easily pronounced Avalon. The Isle of Arran was believed by the Celts to be a physical manifestation of an otherworld paradise. From the Welsh poem "Avellenau", the bard Merlin reveals to his lord the existence of his orchard. It was borne from place to place by the enchanter on all his journeys. Other legends tell of Otherworld visitors to our world who appear in the same guise as the shaman, carrying an apple branch with bells on it. The Apple tree also represents Shelter, either in this world or as a place to rest when making otherworld journeys.

Using an apple wood wand would be the appropriate magical tool to use if you wanted to make shamanic journeys to the Otherworld. It is said that the Apple is used as a calling sign to the Otherworld that you wish to enter their realm. The wand will help you physically, mentally and spiritually connect to the Apple tree. The Apple tree has close links with the shaman, the wisewoman and the magician. And so, there is so much more to the humble Apple tree than first meets the eye. It has a power beyond its stature, and enhances abilities beyond the everyday, despite it being an "everyday" fruit in our society. Nowadays we buy our apples from a shop, and have lost contact with the tree and the process of enjoying the sight of trees in full bloom, of sitting in an orchard on a quiet summer's evening, and picking basketfuls of perfect, crisp fruit in the Autumn. Opening your heart to the spirit of the Apple tree is the first step in making this journey to gain the hidden knowledge it holds for you.

Following the recent heroic return from their swedish brothers at http://www.piratebay.org, the bittorent filesharing isohunt team managed to restore service after an attack from the music and film evil coalition. This is what they say today after coming back online thanks to user donations and support:

* With this upgrade, we now have multi-homed connectivity. It means once we get everything running smoothly, we can guarantee close to 100% uptime.
* We accepted about $6700 (NET after Paypal fees) in donations since we went down on Jan. 16. That's over $1300 averaged, with about $2000 for the last day alone. Indeed, people like you is the power of the internet, and I'll remember to call for help more in the future.

ASCII, Cymatics and the physics of sacred sound..

Is there a connection between sound, vibrations and physical reality? Do sound and vibrations have the potential to create? In this article we will see what various researchers in this field, which has been given the name of Cymatics, have concluded.
Nada Brahma, the world is Sound!

I alo found this page which seems to confirms a lot of the links between cymatics, philosophy, religion and political change. As if the way music and language scientifically and magically affect our surroundings and shape our world and who we are,
Extract from what follows:
: "Plato observed that changes in government are
brought about by changes in music. In "Timaeus" he said that
"the sight of night and day, of months and the revolving

Great Balls of Fire

A very interesting and uncommon phenomenon called "feu-follet" in French or Fireball lightning recreated at last. It is originally thought that Elijah (like Thor) could produce these things at will. Check those latter-day Israelis who recreated the phenomenon in their lab. See Article or better make your own!!

Leave the WEED alone (let me explain..)

Big record companies recently came to realise they would disappear because they were parasites to start with. So they started to find ways to make people go through them to get music, especially young influencable kids that would love to spend their parents hard earnt cash. Normally they bought sweets or drugs with the money so they decided to launch http://www.weedshare.com/ cleverly using the WEED reference to make them come to them to get to the music.
This is such a disgrace and really bugs me especially coming from responsible adults.
So check this site out to see for yourself and please warn your little friends and tell them to avoid that useless format of music delivery like the plague.
Cheers
Spread the word and the LOve X B.

A psychedelic experience without the LSD?

Bob Monroe, author of many books on Out of Body experiences, has long and close ties with the C.I.A. James Monroe, Bob's father was involved with the Human Ecology Society, a C.I.A. front organization of the late 50's and 60's. The Monroe Institute has done research on accelerated learning and foreign language learning through the use of altered states of consciousness for the C.I.A. and other government organizations.
His research and the Hemi-Sync (Monroe Institute Products) allow you to leave your body and talk to Aliens? anyway it's certainly powerful enough for companies like "PSI-TECH" to exist, they have received several government contracts. For example, during the Gulf War crisis the Department for Defense asked it to use remote viewing to locate Saddam's Scud missiles sites. Last year (1992) the FBI sought PSI-TECH's assistance to locate a kidnapped Exxon executive.

Try it for yourself, look for those sounds on bittorrent and get a good pair of headphones and relax..

Centrino no no no...

Hey you kids out there, if you're thinkink wireless please don't get a centrino.

Basically what they want you to believe is that it works better than anything else (oh yeah, and thanks apple for inventing the Airport and making it work for us like five years ago..).
But in reality Centrino just means you are opening your computer to Big Brother (no drug induced paranoia being involved here, I can reassure you).
Due to the fact that you will be forever online (if you are near a hotspot), the special centrino chip which is soldered to the wireless card (so you can't remove it, ever!) chip will allow BB or Bill Gtes to directly intrude your computer and remove anything they deem suspicious, this could be your secret love emails to Osama Bin Laden, your not so legal mp3s and of course your illegally downloaded software.

Great news if you want to support the music industry and let them keep the music they release so damn boring whilst making huge profits and giving back an absolutely ridiculous amount to the bulk of their artists..

For the software issue well I guess you should support the poeple that create and sell their Intellectual property at decent prices because they are disappearing fast..

So remenber kids, it's a big CENTRINO..NO..NO..NO...

Nokia 6630 Tip

If you have a nokia 6630 music phone, first you a lucky man, but not on Vodafone UK as they strongly restrict their devices. For example they don't let you use MP3 as ringtones unless you downloaded them from their expensive service.

Solution:
Just rename the mp3 you want to use as a ringtone on your computer to have the extension.g2c instead of .mp3, et voila you're really a happy (but a bit sad at the same time) man now..
